Term 3, Week 10 Wednesday 20th September 2023

A message from the Principal

Kia ora tatou, Mālō e lele, Ann yeong haseyo, Ni hao, Dzień dobry

We are coming to the end of term 3 on an absolute high note! Including our School Production, Three Way Conferences to celebrate learning success and next steps, Pīpīwharoa Festival and more!

School Production

Gillian: Big Dog in the City is the very first production we have been able to do since 2018. Although we attempted this production a couple of years ago, unfortunately an unexpected lock down stopped us in our tracks. This time round there was no stopping us and the production enabled us to celebrate ‘The Arts’.
We are so very proud of our Pinehill cast. Our Year 4-6 tamariki who have put many hours of work learning lines, practising songs, learning dance moves, understanding when and where to be on stage, and how to act their part. It really has been the Pinehill Way in action. It was wonderful to have three sell out evening performances and to have so many of our families and communities support us over the three evenings. We hope you have enjoyed their efforts and performance as much as we have enjoyed working with them.
Thank you to all the Pinehill staff, students and parents for your contributions and support towards putting on this show. There are so many people that have helped us behind the scenes. Pinehill’s 'Gillian: Dog in the Big City' has been a superb team effort. We are so very proud to be the first to perform this production, created for Pinehill. The production we will talk about for many years to come, creating lasting memories. Thank you.

Kapa Haka group perform at Rangitoto College - Pīpīwharauroa festival

On Monday, alongside our Kahui Ako cluster schools, our amazing Y4-Y6 (and selected juniors) Kapa Haka group performed at Rangitoto College for the Pīpīwharauroa festival. This is an annual festival at Rangitoto College and such an amazing opportunity to come together with our cluster schools to celebrate Te Ao Maori, Kapa Haka and art works. Our Kapa Haka group has grown significantly in number. We had 75 Pinehill School Kapa Haka students attend and perform a set and they were absolutely outstanding! Thank you to Karen Blau, Alastair Rogers and Kurt Jones who have all been instrumental in giving their time and putting aside regular practices to work alongside and prepare our Kapa Haka group for performances.

2023 Kiwi Competitions

We have had certificates come in for the 2023 Kiwi Competitions. Well done to all our students who participated in these English and Mathematics competitions. Certificates were handed out to students at assembly and in their classrooms. We would like to acknowledge and congratulate Allen Bai in Year 5 who attained the highest score in the Year 5 Mathematics competition administered by the University of Canterbury. The Kiwi competitions were highly contested by students from over 450 schools throughout New Zealand, participating in multiple competitions and year groups. Congratulations on this tremendous achievement Allen. We are very proud of you.

Three Way Conferences (3WC) today and tomorrow

This afternoon (3:15pm) and tomorrow we are holding our 3WC (Three Way Conference) which will provide the opportunity for you to discuss your child’s learning achievements and next steps further with the class teacher. So far we have 80% of parents signed up to attend. Our goal is always 100%. This is your opportunity to hear where your child is in their learning and their next steps/goals as we near the end of another school year. It is not too late to book. Please refer to the information below on how to book an interview time with your child’s teacher. Click to book. If you have any difficulty with this, please contact the office.

School will close at the normal time of 3.00pm today, Wednesday 20th September and, with an early finish of 12.30pm tomorrow on Thursday 21st September. We look forward to meeting with you and supporting your child to share their learning.

We would greatly appreciate it if you could pick your child up at 12.30pm (tomorrow, Thursday) to allow teachers to have a lunch break before starting conferences at 1:00pm. PKC will open earlier on Thursday for families who are unable to collect their children at 12:30pm. If you are requiring your child to attend after school care on Thursday, please contact PKC to book a place. The school library will also be open for supervision, for students who are not attending PKC but can not be picked up until 3pm. If you have not yet completed this form, please do so by the end of today so we can support and direct your child to how they are being collected during our early finish tomorrow. 3WC - School Closing at 12.30pm

This is our last newsletter for term 3. I wish everyone a wonderful school holiday break ahead and look forward to seeing everyone back on site for term 4 on Monday 9th October.
We will welcome our new students and families to Pinehill School on the first day of term 4 at Pinehill School with a whakatau, which will take place in the school hall at 9:15am. All are welcome to join us as we welcome everyone new to our place. Happy holidays everyone!

Star of the Week

We have a spotlight on our Pinehill Way cog of Responsibility this term. Our house leader, Sean Lee, has developed a house leader project which includes a responsibility shout out box in the library. When anyone in the school is caught displaying responsibility, their name and room are recorded and placed into the Pinehill Way Shout Out Box. All names are acknowledged at assembly and one is pulled out of the box. Their photo is taken and displayed acknowledging them. Instead of Employee of the month we have Pinehill Way of the week. Congratulations Jayden Deng, Daniel Liu and Serena Ma
