Staff Update
Introducing our new Caretaker - Mark Skeath

Welcome Mark Skeath who has started at Pinehill School today. Mark is a local and may be known to some of you through football or handy man work. Mark is a lifelong member at the ECB football club. Mark is a real handyman and has been a franchise owner with 'Hire a Hubby' for a number of years.
Mark has started with a hiss and a roar and can be seen out on our grounds as he tackles the lawns and gardens that have taken on some Easter break growth.

Introducing our Deputy Principal - Vicki Nabete

Congratulations to Vicki Nabete who has been successful with the Deputy Principal appointment at Pinehill, commencing next term in Term 2.
We are delighted to have Vicki joining us at Pinehill. Vicki has taught in New Zealand and China. While in China (2016) she was the director of curriculum and professional development. Vicki's leadership experience is not only in a primary school setting but also in a part time lecturing role at Laidlaw College, where she has been lecturing B.Ed students on Maths curriculum and pedagogy at Primary School. We will welcome Vicki as part of our powhiri on day 1 next term.

Next week is our last week of term 1. Our last day of the term is Friday 12th April.
I wish you all a wonderful holiday break ahead. Take time to surround yourself with loved ones and do those things you love. As I say to the students and staff ‘fill your bucket’.
We look forward to seeing everyone back for Term 2, Monday 29th April. We will welcome our new teachers, students and families to Pinehill School on the first day at Pinehill School with a whakatau, which will take place in the school hall at 9:00am. All are welcome to join us as we welcome everyone new to our place.

Ehara taku toa i te toa takitahi, engari he toa takitini

Seeking players for Flippa Ball term 2

WHAT IS FLIPPA BALL?

Flippa Ball is most commonly known as ‘Mini Water Polo’. The game is a water based sport and is a great way for kids to be active while building confidence when in the water. The sport is played in a shallow pool (1.2m – 1.3m deep) and uses a range of ball skills, swimming and team work. Flippa Ball is a great stepping stone into Water Polo with kids learning the basic skills needed to take on the deep water in Intermediate and Club level.
If you are in year 4-6 and you would like to join a Pinehill Flippa Ball Team in term 2 please email your child's name and year, and your contact details, to sport@pinehill.school.nz by Friday 5th April.

Games and Training Information: Venue - AUT Millennium Pool
Games are 17 minutes in length and played on Sundays between 1pm and 7pm. Dates for games for term 2 are: Sunday 5th May - Sunday 23rd June (No Games Kings Birthday) Training is held on Saturdays at 5.30pm-6.15pm.

Swimming Competition

Last week on Tuesday 26th March we sent a small, but strong team to the Mid Bays Interschool Swimming Competition. They represented Pinehill proudly and bravely and came away with some great results. The team members were Ella Zhang, Cindy Wanwan, Austin Bai, Oliver Zhang, Ella Shen, and Claire Li. It was very impressive that our team showed great confidence to compete in the open mixed relay against all the other schools who had teams full of year 6s while we only had one. Oliver Zhang had 5th place finishes in the 25m backstroke and 25m breaststroke. Ella Shen came 5th in 25m freestyle, 3rd in 25m breaststroke and 2nd in the 75 medley, missing out on first by 0.07 seconds. Well done team!
