A message from the Principal

Kia ora tātou,

This week's message is coming to you from Camp Headquarters. I am privileged to be spending time with our Year 5/6 students, their amazing teachers and wonderful parent helpers at Camp Hunua.

Year 5/6 camps
Our Year 5 and 6 students are fortunate enough to be taking part in a three day and two night stay at Hunua Presbyterian Camp this week.
The camp is a great opportunity to make new friends, strengthen existing ones and form further bonds with teachers, as a class and as a year group. They will experience a range of activities which will challenge and excite them, including mountain biking, rock climbing, flying kiwi, bush craft, hiking and cooking. There will be some tired but happy children on their return!

Three-Way Conference dates and times
  • Wednesday 29th March 3.15pm - 6.00pm
  • Thursday 30th March 1.00pm - 7.00pm
The school will close at the normal time of 3.00 pm on 29th March with an early finish of 12.30 pm on 30th March.

PKC will open earlier on Thursday for families who are unable to collect their children at 12:30pm. If you are requiring your child to attend after school care on Thursday, please contact Liv - 021 373 229 to book a place.

The school library will also be open for supervision, for students who are not attending PKC but can not be picked up until 3pm. If you require this option, this form must be completed so we can organise enough adult supervision for students remaining at school until 3pm. Please click the link below
School Closing at 12.30pm

What do 3WC meetings look like?
Each family books in a 15-minute slot online to attend. Your child will talk to you about what they were learning and how well they achieved the learning, their strengths and weaknesses, their learning goals and how you can help them at home achieve these goals. An important thing to remember during the 3WC meeting is that the focus is on learning and not behaviour. If you have concerns around your child’s behaviour then please email or pop in and see the teacher when the matter arises.

Your Role as a Parent
To be an active participant in the discussion, the questions below may help. If English is your second language you are welcome to be supported by an interpreter.

Questions you could ask your child to help discuss their learning:
  • What have you been learning?
  • Tell me what you think you are doing well?
  • What helped with this learning?
  • What did you find difficult?
For these conferences we use an online booking system. To make an appointment go to https://www.schoolinterviews.co.nz/code/p5yat and follow the online instructions. Confirmation of your times will be emailed to you. You may change your appointments at any time. For those of you without online access at home or work you may make a booking through the school office.

We look forward to seeing you all there.

Ehara taku toa i te toa takitahi, engari he toa takitini
Success is not the work of one but the work of many.

Ngā mihi nui,

The Resilience Project

Part 2: Gratitude

This week’s presentation from The Resilience Project focuses on Gratitude.
Gratitude is paying attention to the things that we have right now, and not worrying about what we don’t have. We practise this by noticing the positives that exist around us.
Research shows that practising gratitude rewires our brains to overcome the negativity bias (which can lead to anxiety and depression) and see the world for what we are thankful for. It is also shown to broaden thinking, and increase physical health through improved sleep and attitude to exercise.

There are many ways in which you can practise gratitude, including starting a Wellbeing Journal.

This is a year-long promotion. The stickers are exchanged for sports equipment. Last year your contribution helped us exchange more than $1,000 worth sports equipment for the school. Let’s do it again!

All stickers and barcodes need to be stuck on the official forms, downloaded from www.yummyfruit.co.nz. You can return the complete forms to the white box outside of the health room in the administration block. Thank you for your ongoing effort!

Second-Hand Uniforms Donation
If you have spare uniforms that your child no longer wears, please donate them for us to sell at our second-hand uniforms online store. We accept uniforms in any condition. However, we ask them to be in a clean and resalable state. Please hand in your donation to the school office. Thank you very much for your generosity!
FOPS volunteers operate this online store to raise money for the new kapa haka uniforms for our tamariki. The volunteers gave up their time to make this possible. Therefore, the store does not have set opening hours. We thank you for your patience and understanding. If you have urgent enquiries, please email us at pinehillfops@gmail.com.
