Room 16

Tena Koutou Parents and Caregivers,

My name is Christine Johnston, and I will be teaching Year 6 students in Room 16.

I was born in Taiwan. My family immigrated to New Zealand when I was a child. My cultural background enables me to speak both English and Mandarin fluently. I am a proud parent of two teenagers, both of whom started their schooling journey right here at Pinehill. Ariana, my daughter, has a passion for science, while my son, Dylan, is an enthusiastic drummer.

My passion for teaching began over a decade ago at Pinehill School. It all started when I volunteered in my daughter’s class as a parent helper, and since then, I have dedicated myself to a career in education. The Pinehill community holds a special place in my heart, and I can confidently say that “this is a great place to be.”

In Room 16, I aim to foster a classroom culture that is respectful, inclusive, and responsive to diversity. It is crucial to me that every student feels valued as a unique individual, receiving the support and encouragement needed to become the best version of themselves. Our class identity will incorporate the Pinehill Way, and the students will be scaffolded to develop a Growth Mindset and the skills to become confident active learners.

I am committed to facilitating engaging, relevant, and purposeful learning experiences across the curriculum. When children see the value in their education, they become more self-motivated to strive for their best.
