Inspiring active learners and leaders who make a difference

Christine Johnston

Room 16

Tena Koutou Parents and Caregivers,

My name is Christine Johnston and I will be teaching Year 5/6 students in Room 16.

I was born in Taiwan. My family immigrated to New Zealand when I was a child. My cultural background enables me to speak both English and Mandarin fluently. I have 2 teenage children, both attended Pinehill when they first started school. We are an artistic family. My son, Dylan is a keen drummer, and my daughter, Ariana and I share a love for visual arts.

My passion for teaching first sparked here at Pinehill School, ten years ago, when I parent-helped in my daughter’s class. Since then, I have pursued a career in teaching. Because of this connection, Pinehill community has a very special place in my heart and I can proudly state that “this is a great place to be”.

The classroom culture that I  foster is respectful, inclusive and responsive to diversity. It is paramount to me that my students feel valued as unique individuals, where they are supported and encouraged to be the best version of themselves. The Pinehill Way will be an integral part of our class identity. Children in Room 16 will be scaffolded to develop a Growth Mindset and the skills to become confident active learners.

I aspire to facilitate learning experiences across curriculum that are engaging, relevant and purposeful to my students’ everyday lives. I believe that when children find value in their learning, they become more self-motivated to achieve their best ability.

I value open communication between home and school. Please get in contact with me and let me know how I can best support your child to flourish at school.
