Term 3, Week 4 Wednesday 12 August 2026

Message from our Principal

Kia ora tatou, Mālō e lele, Ann yeong haseyo, Ni hao, Dzień dobry, Buenos días, Bom dia,

As we near the middle of the term, great learning continues both inside and outside the classroom. Here’s an update to celebrate recent events and highlight what’s coming up.

Maths Week

This week is Maths Week at Pinehill School. There were many exciting events and challenges taking place throughout the week. On top of the classroom and team Maths Week challenges, there is also a daily maths problem posted on our TV station. It has been wonderful seeing the students persevere to work out solutions to these problems either individually or in groups.

We were also fortunate to have the maths fairies visiting Pinehill School. Fairy Veldman and Fairy Cattell are visiting all classrooms with challenging maths problems to be solved and prizes. The children are having to do a lot of thinking and strategising to solve the problems. Fairy Veldman and Fairy Cattell are very impressed with the maths thinking in all the classrooms visited so far and are looking forward to seeing the remainder of classrooms over the next few days. A big thank you to Darren Mathers for leading us through Maths Weeks. This is definitely an annual highlight!

Swimming Lessons

Swimming lessons for all our Year 1-6 students are well underway.
I visited the Millennium Pool on Tuesday and the joy on our tamariki’s faces showed just how much they are enjoying this time in the water together. The coaches at Millenium have commented on the engagement and behaviour of our students. We are so proud to see them taking The Pinehill Way with them to swimming classes.

Biking for Year 5 and Year 6

This week, Sports North Harbour are working alongside all our Year 5 and Year 6 classrooms to teach essential bike safety.
Students have been learning and refreshing key skills, including:
    • Checking that helmets fit securely
    • Ensuring bike brakes and tyre air pressure are safe
    • Riding safely and watching out for hazards or obstacles
It has been a fantastic week of practical, lifelong learning for our students!

    Football Goals

Thank you to the Board of Trustees for funding two new Football goals. Mr Skeath had fun putting these together and placing them on the field. Football has become a popular lunchtime sport to play with our tamariki of all ages. The Football World cup certainly increased this interest and the students are having so much fun playing lunchtime games. Mr Skeath is planning on painting Football markings on the field as the weather becomes more settled. It is wonderful to see the children having so much exercise and fun out there.

    Still to come:

    • Y6 students have their intermediate school visits next week (Monday at Murrays Bay Intermediate School and Friday at Northcross Intermediate School).
    • Netball Super Cluster is next Tuesday
    • Monday 7th September, welcoming our new Deputy Principal, Melanie Hanson
    • Week 8 - Monday 7th September - Art Exhibition in the School Hall
    Ngā mihi nui,
    Carla Veldman

School Newsletter Announcement: Important Update Regarding Before & After School Care

We are writing to share an important update regarding our onsite before- and after-school care provision, which will take effect from the end of this term.

Celebrating a Wonderful Partnership with PKC- After many years of a highly valued partnership, our current provider, PKC, will be concluding their service at Pinehill School at the end of Term 3 (Friday 25th September).

PKC has been an integral part of our school fabric for a long time, providing a safe and caring environment for our students. We want to extend our deepest gratitude to Rochelle and the entire PKC team for their dedication, care, and positive impact on our school community over the years.

We will be working closely with PKC over the coming weeks to ensure a smooth transition, and we look forward to formally thanking and farewelling their team at our school assembly on Tuesday 15th September.

Welcoming sKids to Pinehill School To ensure continuous, high-quality care for our families, we are delighted to announce that sKids (Safe Kids in Daily Supervision) will be taking over as our onsite provider moving forward.

sKids is a well-established, MSD-approved provider with a fantastic reputation across New Zealand for delivering engaging, safe, and fun out-of-school care.
To make the transition as easy as possible for our students, the handover will happen in two stages:
    1. Term 3 Holiday Programme: sKids will begin by running the spring holiday programme from Monday 28th September to Friday 9th October (this will be held at Oteha Valley School - as they will still be setting up long term on Pinehill site. Holiday programmes after this will be at Pinehill).
    2. Term 4 Daily Care: sKids will officially launch their before- and after-school care from day one of Term 4 (Monday 12th October).
Information for Parents & How to Register
We know how important routine and stability are for our families. sKids offers OSCAR subsidies for eligible families and will be opening their booking system shortly.

To help you get to know the team and understand how to transition your bookings, sKids will be hosting a Parent Information Evening here at Pinehill School in the staffroom on Wednesday 2nd September at 5:30pm - 6:30pm. All welcome.
Thank you to our community for your ongoing support as we embark on this exciting new chapter for our out-of-school care.

    Spring Netball

The 2026 Spring Netball League runs from 17th October to 28th November. Please note that Pinehill School will not be organising and registering teams for this season.
However, we do encourage anyone interested to put together your own teams and register directly with Kidzplay.
Please find attached the information pack for full details about the 2026 Kidzplay Netball Spring League or visit the school website Pinehill Website
