A very warm welcome back to Term 3 to all of our students and whānau.
We have had a fantastic start and the children have come back motivated, engaged and ready for an exciting Term 3 ahead.

We began the term together as a whole school with a mihi whakatau to welcome our 25 new students and their families to Pinehill School. It is important to us that your move to our school is as easy as possible. If there is anything you need to know, please pop in and ask. No question is ever too small.

Trees for survival

Trees for Survival Planting Day - What a success!
A huge thank you to all our adult supporters, and the Year 5/6 students, parents and staff who participated in our annual tree planting on Thursday 23rd July. The planting took place in Helensville. It was a day of hard work, team work, a fine day and commitment resulted in another Trees for Survival planting success. A huge thank you to everyone who contributed to our mufti day - your generous donations raised $406, which helped cover the cost of the bus and ensured our tamariki could take part in this special day. Congratulations everyone!

A massive thank you to Mark Skeath and Marg Milne for all their hours of work nurturing our seedlings throughout the year and to Marg for the planning that goes into our planting day. It is a privilege for our community to be involved in such an amazing cause.

Introducing our new Deputy Principal - Melanie Hanson

Congratulations to Melanie Hanson who has been successful with the Deputy Principal appointment at Pinehill, commencing later in the term - Monday 7th September.

We are delighted to have Melanie joining us at Pinehill. Melanie has worked in a variety of teaching and leadership roles over 18 years. Melanie's leadership experience is not only in a primary school setting but also in a part time role at AUT, where she has been mentoring and supporting students on teaching practicums in Primary Schools. We will formally welcome Melanie as part of our powhiri on day 1 next term.

    Term 3 Spotlight: Excellence

This term, we are focusing on Excellence —exploring how it looks, sounds, and feels in different settings (classrooms, learning time, assembly, library, swimming, trips, playground, looking after our school).

How you can help at home: Talk with your child about excellence in daily life, whether at school, sports practice, home, or in the community.

I hope your child/children have had a great start to Term 3.
We are looking forward to a great term ahead.

Ehara taku toa i te toa takitahi, engari he toa takitini
Success is not the work of one, but the work of many.

    Ngā mihi nui,

    Carla Veldman

Book Battle 2026 by Kaylie Zhang and Wendy Dai

On 12 June, Pinehill’s Teacher Only Day, 10 dedicated students still put on their uniform, and went to represent Pinehill at the interschool Book Battle competition at Northcross intermediate.

There were so many schools, and it was a much bigger competition than we imagined. Teams had to choose one round that they felt very confident in, as their doubles points round. Both Pinehill teams coincidently chose the same round and luckily for us, the questions in that round were achievable. The hardest part of the competition was that some of the questions were really obscure, just one random line from a book, and we were also asked detailed questions about the author's lives.

Our teams got 5th, only 5 points behind the overall winners, and 13th. Ms Donaldson and Mrs Barratt were really happy with how the teams went as it is the best result they have had so far. Emaya got a spot prize and our school got a $50 voucher! It was an awesome day and the lucky year 5’s in our team get to do it again next year.

A big shout out to the competition sponsors Barfoot & Thompson Browns Bay and Scholastic
