Pinehill School Picnic – A Wonderful Community Evening
What a fantastic evening we shared at our Pinehill School Picnic! It was heartwarming to see so many families connecting, especially our new families settling into the Pinehill community.
A huge thank you to our fabulous FOPS team and parent helpers for making the event such a success. The sushi and pizza pre-orders were a hit, the food stalls kept everyone well fed, and Mr Whippy was certainly in high demand on what turned out to be a beautifully warm evening.
A special shout-out to our house leaders, who did an outstanding job running sports games and table tennis competitions. It was a wonderful evening of fun, laughter, and community spirit.
Culture Week Celebrations
This week is Culture Week at Pinehill School. With over 38 different ethnicities represented in our community, this is a special opportunity to learn more about one another’s backgrounds, traditions, and cultures.
“When we understand and appreciate one another’s cultural backgrounds, we connect more deeply.”
A huge thank you to the parents and whānau who have spent time in classrooms sharing their culture. Our tamariki are enjoying delicious food, artefacts, storytelling, language lessons, games, music, art, and more. Your involvement creates an authentic and rich learning experience, strengthening the connection between home and school.
If you would still like to share something from your culture, there is time before the end of the term. Please email your child’s teacher to arrange a visit.
Culture Parade & Shared Lunch – Friday 13 March
Our Culture Parade will begin at 11:00am. Children are invited to come to school dressed in clothing that reflects their culture(s).
A shared lunch will follow. Students may bring a small plate of food that represents their culture. Food can be taken directly to classrooms on arrival, where teachers will have a designated space set aside.
Due to the day’s timetable and events, we are unable to provide heating for food. You may prefer to drop off a dish closer to lunchtime, already prepared and ready to serve. We encourage our tamariki to try something new, and we hope many of you can join us for this special celebration.
Safe Driving & Parking – Let’s Work Together
We are grateful for the continued support of our local traffic warden and Community Constable Tania Wansink, who are helping promote safe driving practices, particularly on Spencer Road.
We continue to receive concerns about unsafe driving and parking in the layby area. Keeping our children safe at drop-off and pick-up times is a shared responsibility.
• The layby is for drop-off and pick-up only - no parking. • In the morning, you may stop for a maximum of two minutes. • If you need longer, please park on a side street and walk in. • Always drive in the correct direction to keep traffic flowing safely.
If you witness unsafe driving or parking, you can report it to the Community Roadwatch NZ Police team with a photo and number plate.
Our tamariki are watching and learning from us - let’s model the safe behaviours we expect from them.
Together, we can ensure Pinehill remains a safe place for everyone.

By Hazel Kuang Year 3 - Room 3
In the morning, just after the loud bell rang, Room 3 went to line up from smallest to biggest for our school photos. When we were in the hall, I saw three kind instructors. One instructor told some of us to sit on a chair, and I was one of them.
First, we sat down, but some people were standing. The instructor said, "lollies" and we repeated it. Then all of a sudden, "Blink". There was a bright light that blinked, blinked, and blinked. My eyes were twitching irritatingly. After that, we all said the silly words that the instructor said. Next, we stood up behind Clara and Amal in alphabetical order.
Finally, it was time for our self portraits. At my turn, I smiled a warm smile. I felt very happy that I got my portrait taken. It was the best day of my life.
