Message from our Principal
Kia ora tatou, Mālō e lele, Ann yeong haseyo, Ni hao, Dzień dobry, Buenos días, Bom dia,
We have enjoyed a wonderful Term 3 together with many amazing events, including the Art Exhibition, Jump Jam competition, Zone days, Field Trips, our new block being delivered to site, and some fantastic learning experiences in our classrooms.
At assembly this week we celebrated many students in academics, sport, and performing arts. What a wonderful way to end our term together. We also enjoyed a fabulous video from Mrs Veldman, all the way from The Great Wall in China! We look forward to welcoming Mrs Veldman back next term.
I wish you all a wonderful school holiday break ahead. Hopefully we get some warmer weather to enjoy!
We will welcome everyone back for Term 4 on Monday 12th October. A whakatau will be held at 9:00am in the school hall to welcome our new students and whānau. All are warmly invited to attend.

Class Placements for 2027
As you can appreciate, creating class placements is a very thoughtful and detailed process. Our staff work carefully together, considering a wide range of factors such as:
-
-
-
Balancing children with English as a second language
-
-
Children who learn well together
-
Children who do not learn well together
-
Students needing additional learning or behaviour support
-
Positive friendships and student relationships
Teachers know their students well, and parents can be assured that a considerable amount of thought goes into making the best placement for every child.
This year, we are not accepting requests for specific teachers. The only requests we will consider are if there is an ongoing friendship situation we may not be aware of, so that we can ensure positive learning relationships are supported.
If you do have something important to share in this regard, please email our Deputy Principals:

Years 0–3: Melanie Hanson – melanie@pinehill.school.nz

Years 4–6: Sarah Cattell – sarahc@pinehill.school.nz

If your child will not be returning to Pinehill in 2027 (and you have not yet informed us), please let the office know at info@pinehill.school.nz as this helps us with our planning. If you have a younger child turning 5 in Term 1, please see our website or contact the office for enrolment information.

Yellow - Legged Hornets
Late last year we sent schools in the Auckland region some information about work underway on Auckland’s North Shore to get rid of yellow-legged hornets.
These insect pests can kill honeybees and also have a nasty sting.
Our eradication response is still underway and we’re about to ramp up activities again as the weather warms up. We need help from your community.
Information from Biosecurity New Zealand – Please help us get rid of yellow-legged hornets
You may already be aware that Biosecurity New Zealand has work underway in your area to get rid of yellow-legged hornets.
These invasive pests kill honeybees and also have a nasty sting.
As the weather warms up, our eradication response is entering a new phase, and we need your community’s help.
Since November last year, 77 queen hornets and 133 nests have been located and destroyed, and there have been no confirmed sightings since April.
If any managed to survive our operation, they’ll have been hibernating over winter and may begin emerging in the coming weeks to build new nests and establish new colonies.
Our staff are monitoring an extended trap network in the area and working with beekeepers. However, reports from the public are one of the most effective ways to help us find and remove hornets.
Please keep an eye out for yellow-legged hornets and their nests.
If you see a hornet or hornet nest, please report it:
When making a report, please include the location, and, if safe to do so, take a photo.
If you’d like to set up a hornet trap in your garden and register it with us, instructions are here.
Important – do not approach or try to remove hornets or nests
Public support is vital to this response, but please do not touch, disturb, or try to remove any suspected hornet or nest. Take a photo if possible and report it, along with the location, via the hotline or online.
Thank you for helping protect our communities and honeybees.
