INTRODUCING

Maria Trotter

Kia ora koutou,

My name is Maria Trotter and welcome to Room 11 for 2026.

I started teaching in 2022 after graduating from the University of Canterbury. I began my career at a small country school, where I taught years 2-8 all in the same classroom. This foundation has shaped my belief that all students have strengths and are able to support each other with their learning. I support my students to be active learners by asking questions, and understanding what they need to do to be an awesome class member and learner. By posing challenges and teaching students how to approach a problem, risk taking and resilience become central pillars of my class culture.

I am passionate about maths, reading, and science, as well as encouraging strong communication and inclusivity among my ākonga. I use a restorative approach, which ensures everyone is heard, respected, and understood. I believe this fosters a greater sense of belonging within the classroom, which leads to happy and engaged students. I also aim to form positive relationships with whānau and to keep you involved with your child’s school life.

What else happens in Room 11…

● Children should arrive before the bell so they have time to get their drink bottle, hang up their bag, catch up with friends, and use the bathroom if needed—ensuring they are ready to learn by 8:50 am.
● In Terms 1 and 4, hats are kept in tote trays and worn during morning tea, lunch, and outdoor activities.
● The Pinehill Way values guide everything we do in Room 11.

If you have any questions, concerns, or comments, please don’t hesitate to contact me at maria@pinehill.school.nz. I look forward to working with you and your child in 2026.

Ngā mihi,
Maria Trotter
