INTRODUCING

Mark van Dam

Kia ora

My name is Mark van Dam and I am very pleased to be teaching Year 5&6 students in Room 12.

I live with my wife Saskia in Dairy Flat. We have two adult sons, both engineers!

Outside of school, my passions include gardening, sailing and boat building.

My teaching career started in 1991 at Dairy Flat School, where I spent many years. Then I taught at Coatesville School and in 2022 at Waitoki School. Last year while relieving, I discovered Pinehill School and I’ve been teaching in Room 11. Pinehill School is a special place to teach and I am delighted to be here in 2025.

Developing a positive classroom culture, ensuring students are curious and passionate about their learning is my priority. It is vital for students to develop ownership over their learning, ensuring they keep striving to become life-long learners.

I also believe that educating children is a partnership, so I encourage open communication to support your child’s learning.
